According to twitchfilm.net Marvel is considering bringing some of their lesser known characters to the big screen in a series of ten minute long films to run before a feature. The exposure of said characters to average movie-goers would hopefully result in a greater awareness on their part, paving the way for exploiting these characters in feature-length films. While I am still not convinced that live-action cinema is the ideal medium for superhero characters, I do like the idea of short films screening before the main attraction – this thing could catch on (again). After all, if you’re going to watch a 90 minute film, what’s a 15-minute opening act? The article makes the point that this would also be a great opportunity for young filmmakers to strut their stuff in addition to functioning as a trial run for longer, more expensive full-length adaptation.
