Idiots

by Martin Baena

Characters: Barber, Customer

Setting: Barber shop

Lights up.

Barber: ….y’can’t. They won’t listen.

Customer: Uh-huh

Barber: Y’see?

Customer: Right

Barber: …’cause they’re idiots. You can’t tell ’em what. Can’t – y’know? – they just won’t… n’ they’re not stupid-idiots; lot of ’em bright, well-to-do but y’ tell one thing…

Customer: Like what?

Barber: Like anything…

Customer: Oh

Barber: …doesn’t matter. You tell ’em it’s round, say. They know it’s round, n’ they say…

Customer: Uh-huh

Barber: …no, it is flat.

Customer: The right side’s a little crooked.

Barber: You’re slouchin’. Up. (Customer sits up) Sit still. (Barber continues cutting).

Lights down.
